Clanton places second at East Bay Raceway Park

Shane Clanton followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) on Monday afternoon to close out the final three rounds of the Reopening Tour. With 35 cars on hand for the Geico East Bay Nationals, Clanton laid down the fastest time in his qualifying group before picking up a 10-lap heat race victory. Earning the pole position for the $7,000-to-win A-Main, Clanton set the pace early but a battle brewing for the lead on lap 12 with Brandon Overton closed the distance on the rest of the field. Holding the top spot until lap 31, Shane went on to place second behind Jonathan Davenport with Tim McCreadie, Jimmy Owens, and Tyler Erb rounding out the Top-5. (Heath Lawson photo)

On Tuesday afternoon, Shane scored a second place finish in his heat behind Brandon Overton, which positioned him fifth on the starting grid for the A-Main. Improving one spot in the 40-lap affair, Clanton notched a fourth place finish behind Brandon Overton, Jonathan Davenport, and Jimmy Owens with Kyle Bronson coming in fifth.

Wrapping up the Geico East Bay Nationals on Wednesday evening, Clanton followed up the sixth fastest lap in his time trial group with a second place finish in his heat behind Tyler Erb. Starting the $7,000-to-win finale in seventh, Shane was involved in a tangle on the initial start that realigned the field. Unable to gain any momentum for the remainder of the 40-lapper, Clanton fell back to a 14th place outing.

Shane has climbed to seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
