Clanton begins WoO title hunt at Sunshine Nationals

With the off-season in the rearview mirror, Shane Clanton returned to the driver’s seat of his Skyline Motorsports No. 25 Late Model on Thursday at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) to begin his run for the 2023 Case Construction World of Outlaw Late Model Series championship.

With 47 Late Models on the grounds for night one, Clanton recorded a third-place run in his heat to earn a sixth row starting position for the $8,000-to-win feature. Shane ran as high as 10th before mechanical woes forced him to retire from the event early. Clanton was scored 22nd in the running order.

For the second World of Outlaw show of the weekend, Clanton transferred to Friday's main event through a consolation race after a fifth-place finish in his heat race. For the $8,000 feature, Clanton was unable to make up ground and settled for a 19th-place finish.

Saturday's $20,000 finale at Volusia Speedway Park was cancelled due to rain.
